Brentwood has a low-keyed ambiance all its own. Located west of the 405 Freeway, its main commercial street is San Vicente Blvd. Friends and families gather there to casually shop, market, checkout the public library, pick up a Mocha Frost or sit down for a meal. The area continues to grow, with the conversion of apartments and the construction of new condominiums projects.
Similarly, many of the single family homes located north and south of San Vicente and Sunset Blvds. have undergone transformations. Traditionally Brentwood homes had a warm country feeling: hardwood floors, French doors, a large fireplace in the family room, beautiful flowers in the garden and the almost mandatory Californian swimming pool and barbecue. Renovations and new construction trend toward grander Mediterranean, Cape Cod and Architectural styles, while maintaining the indoor / outdoor sensibility. The wonderful picturesque estates of Brentwood Park epitomize the best of Brentwood real estate.
Going west, north of Sunset is Mandeville Canyon. Lower Mandeville has a rural feel; upper Mandeville offers views. Horses are permitted in rare sections of Brentwood.
A gated community off of Mandeville, Brentwood Country Estates, is another example of luxury country living, combining city, mountain, and ocean views.
One of the landmarks of Brentwood is the Country Mart located at 26th Street and San Vicente Blvd. Once an early farmers´ market with a big red barn facade, today it is a collection of quaint shops, restaurants and grocers. A few block away is the Brentwood Country Club, 18-hole golf course and tennis courts.
Another area where the locals shop and dine is Brentwood Village, north of San Vicente and just south of Sunset.
