Palm Springs/Desert Cities

Palm Springs/Desert Cities

Palm SpringsPalm Springs is considered an international oasis. Visitors are attracted by the warmth of the desert, the beautiful colorful landscapes and star studded night skies. It is located in the Coachella Valley which encompasses Palm Desert, Palm Springs, Rancho Mirage, Cathedral City, Indian Wells, La Quinta, Indio, Desert Hot Springs and a variety of unincorporated communities in Eastern Riverside County.

Palm Springs became famous as a playground for the Hollywood set who wanted a get- away place to rest and socialize. Many of these stars and public figures played a key role in the prosperity of the city and surrounding communities. The classic Palm Springs' mid- century modern architecture adds an air of contemporary sophistication to the desert landscape. The downtown area is filled with shops, restaurants, art galleries, interesting boutiques, full service spas, and casinos. Outdoor sports opportunities are plentiful and Tribal canyons offer challenging hiking adventures. The Ariel Tramway, Art Museum and International Film Festival, held every year in January, are some of the city's beloved attractions.

Palm Springs and the Desert Cities have gone from seasonal destinations to a year round experience. Many Baby Boomers retire to the Coachella Valley and young families also call it home. Tourism is an important component of the economy across Coachella. The big-name musical festivals, championship tennis, golf and heavyweight boxing matches are heavily attended.

Rancho Mirage, an exclusive luxury enclave, continues to pay homage to the early notable celebrities with streetnames like Frank Sinatra, Bob Hope, Gerald Ford, Ginger Rogers, Dinah Shore and Gene Audry Trail. Known for its vision and generosity this community developed the Esienhower Medical Center, the Bette Ford Center, the Barbara Sinatra Children’s Center, the Rancho Mirage Public Library and Observatory, and the Children’s Museum. The manicured landscapes, clean wide streets, beautiful homes and estates illustrate how lovely an area can be when it is thoughtfully planned and executed. Sunnylands is Rancho Mirage´s most lavish and impressive estate. Comprising 650 acres, it was built by ambassador, businessman, and philanthropist, Walter Annenberg. Renowned for having entertained kings, presidents and dignitaries, Sunnylands is now open for public and private tours. It’s a favorite, especially with history buffs.

Palm Desert is a popular destination and second home haven for snowbirds during the Season (November –April). The abundance of gated communities, golf, pickleball, tennis, and socially friendly clubhouses and, of course, the climate offer resort living at its most relaxed. The choices of eateries and stores are wide ranging: El Paseo’s restaurants, boutiques, and art galleries, the Shops at Palm Desert Mall, big box stores, a la Costco, Best Buy, Target, Marshalls, Nordy’s Rack, to name a few.

Cabazon, 20 miles west of Palm Springs, is a collection of discounted brand name designers. It is the ultimate shop till you drop venue.
