Westwood is strategically located in one of the busiest and diverse sections of Los Angeles. It borders Bel Air (N), Holmby Hills and Beverly Hills (E), West Los Angeles (S) and Brentwood (W). To the north of the commercial portion of the “Village” is the University of California at Los Angeles (UCLA) campus and world renown Regan Medical Center.. On the western edge of Westwood are the Federal Building and the 405 freeway. Along the stretch of Wilshire Blvd., beginning just east of Westwood Blvd to the edge of Beverly Hills is The Wilshire Corridor.
The Village begins north of Wilshire. It used to be compared to Santa Barbara for its bohemian educational feel, novelty shops, restaurants and movie houses. Although it is still predominately frequented by students, it has been undergoing a transformation. Several of the long-established businesses and buildings have been replaced by The Palazzo Apartments, Traders Joe’s, Whole Foods, The Geffen Theater, The Armand Hammer Museum, Whiskey Blue (the lounge bar at the W Hotel). The more upscale restaurants, Tanino Ristorante and Napa Valley Bar and Grill have withstood the test of time as newer eateries open around them. In keeping with LA’s devotion to fitness there are two sports clubs, LA Fitness and Equinox, housed within multi -story commercial buildings.
Westwood’s Finest Homes
Many of the lovely single family Westwood homes are perched atop gently sloping lawns with steps that go from the street to the front door. Little Holmby, a niche within Westwood, on its eastern border, is admired for its larger lots and graceful, elegant homes.
Westwood’s highly regarded Warner Avenue Elementary School serves as a center of activity for families with school-aged children. The school is a prime reason families want to live in the area. Compared to the average owner who moves every 7-10 years,, Westwood residents are well established and tend to remain in their homes for many years. This slower than average turnover rate keeps the demand for Westwood real estate robust.
South of Wilshire Lifestyle
East, of Westwood Blvd. are single family homes, many having been renovated and enlarged that are appealing to new young families moving into the area. To the west, there is a mix of homes, condos and apartments.
