London

London is a cosmopolitan city and a major international center for commerce and politics that unites the east with the west. With its origins during the Roman times the city has been growing for centuries from timber- framed structures during medieval times, to Georgian town houses, to the modern skyscrapers of today. London is a vibrant city with over 7 million inhabitants; almost half are ethnic minorities, giving the city a global flavor.

The Greater London contains 32 boroughs of which 12 plus the City of London make up the Inner London and twenty the Outer London. In addition, the city is also divided in areas. Central London, which includes the West End, Westminster and the City of London, has many of the attractions, great theaters, restaurants, museums and are all within walking distance of each other. The West End of London is renowned for its luxurious and expensive boroughs Kensington and Belgravia - a mixture of Georgian and Victorian terraces, fine stucco fronted buildings and red brick mansion blocks. North London has very appealing inner-city suburbs like Islington and Candem Town. It also contains the fashionable residential area of Hampstead, which has one of the largest expanses of parkland to be found in any big city anywhere in the world. East London is especially diversified; each borough has a homely and distinct feeling but contemporary homes with industrial aesthetics are the order of the day. It is a key financial area with an eclectic mix of historic pubs, stylish bars and in vogue restaurants.

The architecture in London varies; you can find an abundance of grand Victorian and Georgian houses. Mews houses are also popular and found tucked behind the impressive terraced houses in all the best Central London locations. Given the scarcity of land in Central London, most new homes are apartments.
