Hollywood Hills (West and East)
Hollywood Hills (West and East) is a desirable area for its short travel time to the film studios and the privacy it offers to its inhabitants. It winds north, up to Mulholland Dr., in and out of canyons (Laurel, Nichols, Beachwood) along a lengthy stretch of Sunset Blvd. It also includes the Outpost Estates and Mount Olympus. Because of the twisting streets and various shaped lots the homes run the gamut from funky abodes to amazing one of a kind architectural feats. The canyon views from the hills can be tranquil and picturesque while the head on city light panoramas are astounding.
The Kodak Theatre, the new home for the Academy Awards, the Amoeba Music store, with its live music and eclectic/hip atmosphere and a new metro link station are playing a significant role in the reinvigoration of Hollywood. There are also new and renovated restaurants, clubs (Teddy´s, Mood, Hollywood Social) and hotels as well as numerous condo projects, including the high-end lofts being built at Hollywood and Vine. Hollywood Hills is home to the Hollywood Bowl, a natural amphitheater designed by Lloyd Wright (son of Frank Lloyd Wright) that for over 70 year has delighted Angelinos with symphonies, opera, jazz, ballet, presidential addresses, and rock concerts including The Beatles who performed there in 1964. For film aficionados, the ArcLight Cinemas and Cinerama Dome are a cut above the rest and are regularly the scene for international film festivals.
